Not long ago, I traveled to Bowling Green, Kentucky to collaborate with designer Jessica Dolan on her new family home, which she designed with the help of some fun accessories from some of my favorite and talented friends, Amber Interiors, Studio McGee and Caitlin Wilson. My main goal was to add thoughtful layers to the clean-lined space, creating a bit more depth within each frame. It is important to me to have each image tell a story and communicate a warm invitation to the viewer. If my images can add a little lightness to your day while evoking inspiration, I know it's been a successful collaboration.

As I walked through her home and envisioned how it should translate behind the lens, I instantly wanted to fill the kitchen's beautiful open shelves with fresh greenery. This adds life to a space. This is also a pretty economical fresh way to incorporate an extra layer. Implementing green, organic touches is one of my favorite styling habits. It's a trick that adds a little thing I call proof of life, which is visually appealing and offers a comfortable, lived-in feel.

Jessica's choice to use shades of blue and specifically, navy, is representative of a larger trend I've notice among spaces in The New Southern repertoire. Blue and white is very much a classic color palette, but when used in unexpected ways, like painted cabinets or linen upholstery, it feels fresh and relaxed. It's a nod to the preppy, pulled-together side of Southern tradition without feeling buttoned-up or unattainable.
