It’s here! In collaboration with Domino, I’m excited to finally reveal my dear friend Allison Crawford’s latest property… HOTELette Dallas! It’s the third home in Allison’s HOTELette fold, a collection of high-design Airbnb’s that are making it so much easier to travel in style. Whether in Dallas, Nashville or Austin, each of the three properties strike the same note of mid-century chic meets eclectic whimsy, though separately each conveys the spirit of their respective towns.
Located in Dallas’ vibrant Bishop Arts District, HOTELette Dallas is full of bright light, playful accents and of course, a little bit of Texas glam. I just love how Allison embraces the old bones of this home (did you see that mantle!) and we played them up with contemporary design moments, like stacking abstract paintings in the living room nook as a killer asymmetrical chandelier hangs overhead ( I am also honored to be permanently living in this room… a life size photo of me that is). Allison also implements so many of my favorite New Southern trends, like using black as a neutral in the bedroom with a beautiful Lauren Wiliam’s piece to anchor the fireplace. .
Just as Allison is changing the hospitality game, her spaces are changing what it means to create comfortable places to unwind. She drives home the idea that a home can be both stylish and of solace.
Also, a little bit of back story as to why this was such a special trip…… #1. Work with those you love… it creates magic that elevates any project. Allison has turned into a dear friend and I am so honored to be able to work and support the pieces of my heart. #2. When I was fresh off the plane and at the hotel counter checking in, I received a call from my agent. This was a pivotal moment where my breath stopped and my heart raced. She told me we had interest… big interest in the book proposal we sent out into the universe. I’ll never forget this moment…. Think Big Tears in The Big State of Texas! It was a hot July afternoon in Dallas and tears began to pour from my eyes. My emotions were high and mixed with equal parts of surrendering… pure joy…. and total fear. The woman checking me in didn’t know what to do with me and all of my sniffles and asked if I was okay…. This was also the moment my agent told me she had prescheduled 3 meetings for me with 3 of the largest publishers in the country within the next 3 days. I looked across the counter, thanked the woman for her patience while still crying and told her one of the biggest dreams of my life was about to come true. I kept remembering to breathe that day…. I breathed my way through the excitement, the unknown, the anxiety of now having 3 new meetings on top of a busy trip…. My breath was my intention…. and my intention was to remain present and deeply focused on doing the best I could with what was in front of me at each moment. I went upstairs and to my surprise had a glass of champagne waiting for me from the kind woman at the front desk. I read her congratulatory sweet note… left the champagne there because my work had just begun. I quickly shifted gears and started to mentally prep for my client walk through. A few things I take stock in…. my book proposal was my child in a sense… this has been an entity that I have loved and felt exhausted by all at the same time… more importantly this is a body of work that continues to push me to grow as both an artist and a human…. I am grateful for my tears that day… I am grateful to have allowed myself to feel all of my emotions and to continue to put things out into the universe rooted in deep love. This in and of itself is a gift for me and the beginning of another journey as I continue to write this book.
So, I am leaving you with these thoughts today, the more we allow ourselves to lean into our light, the more we allow ourselves to lean into our creativity, and the easier it is to lean into our calling, whatever it may be, in life. Sending you all good vibes, lots of love and don’t forget to VOTE THIS TUESDAY!!!!
