When it comes to her aesthetic, business model, and charm, I'm truly inspired and adore designer Allison Crawford. In the past few years, she's flipped the script on the heavily-client based interior design field to create a totally new kind of hustle. Allison's decided she's designing for herself. Can you think of anything more cathartic and creative? I can't.

With Allison's trial venture, Hotelette, she invested in a great piece of property in Nashville, designed a space that was all her own, and now lists it on sites like Airbnb and VRBO. She's now expanding to other cities, and with each new property comes a blank canvas to incorporate all the trends she loves. Her drive and her creative foundation make her a real champion of The New Southern movement in such a strong and honest way, and I'm so lucky to work alongside her. And if you caught any of our behind the scenes together on instagram you were laughing all the way from the beginning of this project to the end.

Her spaces are just begging to be photographed, with each stylish vignette creating an Instagramable moment. In this Austin, Texas space, Allison created a playful mood with her fearless use of color, mix of textures, and thoughtful placement of layers. She really drew inspiration from the surrounding city, with exotic accessories and pieces of vibrant Austin sprinkled throughout. The home offers something for everyone, which is a genius design strategy for a rental space. So no matter who calls this space home for the weekend, they'll feel at peace in one of its cozy nooks.

Traditional Meets Foreward-Thinking in Chattanooga with Southern Home Magazine

Happy New Year!!!! We are kicking off 2018 with this fun print moment with Southern Home Magazine. On a recent trip to Chattanooga, I collaborated with designer Jason Arnold Interiors to style and shoot a home full of subtle accents and timeless statements. Beauty is in the details, as they say!

The home is full of traditional moments off set by contemporary flair. Think: a classic drum table paired with a tasseled-Moroccan stool, black leather and cane dining chairs with an acrylic pedestal, and simple pen and ink drawings tucked into thick mats and sleek gold frames. The whole space is a reminder that new and old can marry to create serenity, warmth, and intention. Intention for the New Year, Intention for The New Southern, and Intention in the home. It's very much a part of The New Southern, this thoughtful blend of traditional and contemporary, and I love seeing this dynamic translate from room to room!

As I was styling, I felt there was a need for another layer of the unexpected. I chose to fill an empty enclave with stacked firewood, placed piles of books in a large open-shelving unit, and created vignettes throughout with fresh fruit, candlesticks, and greenery. Jason's use of statement jewel tones make for beautiful photography, and I hope you enjoy.

Hip Austin TX Loft Where all the cool kids live with MYDOMAINE

Classic clean lines intertwined with mid-century finds results in a very linear New Southern Vibe!!! I am thrilled to share this downtown Austin, TX loft belonging to a tech guru who recently topped INC magazine charts for his speedy growth. I'm excited to share this shoot with you on MyDomaine, as designer Allison Crawford totally hit the vintage bullseye, literally. (Did you see the fun dart board accent in the living room?)

Combining mid-century furniture finds with eclectic art and accessories, Allison strikes a perfect balance of classic meets cool. For the shoot, we asked Nashville artist Angela Simeone to create a custom large scale commission, which you'll see hanging as a statement piece in the living area. I placed a variety of greenery throughout the loft to pump some life into the space, sprinkled neutral accessories to ensure visual consistency and I styled the coffee table with fresh limes and an open art book to add an element of intrigue and proof of life.

I also want to highlight the waterfall island in the kitchen, which is a great way to make major design impact. It's not actually marble; instead, it's a great marble alternative called Dekton. This is a great alternative for countertops and surfaces as it's durable, non-porous, and attractive. And in the bedroom, Allison dressed the bed with Parachute linens, a favorite line and one that will ensure a crisp look without sacrificing comfort.

Style Me Pretty Living Feature in The Bluegrass State!

Not long ago, I traveled to Bowling Green, Kentucky to collaborate with designer Jessica Dolan on her new family home, which she designed with the help of some fun accessories from some of my favorite and talented friends, Amber Interiors, Studio McGee and Caitlin Wilson. My main goal was to add thoughtful layers to the clean-lined space, creating a bit more depth within each frame. It is important to me to have each image tell a story and communicate a warm invitation to the viewer. If my images can add a little lightness to your day while evoking inspiration, I know it's been a successful collaboration.

As I walked through her home and envisioned how it should translate behind the lens, I instantly wanted to fill the kitchen's beautiful open shelves with fresh greenery. This adds life to a space. This is also a pretty economical fresh way to incorporate an extra layer. Implementing green, organic touches is one of my favorite styling habits. It's a trick that adds a little thing I call proof of life, which is visually appealing and offers a comfortable, lived-in feel.

Jessica's choice to use shades of blue and specifically, navy, is representative of a larger trend I've notice among spaces in The New Southern repertoire. Blue and white is very much a classic color palette, but when used in unexpected ways, like painted cabinets or linen upholstery, it feels fresh and relaxed. It's a nod to the preppy, pulled-together side of Southern tradition without feeling buttoned-up or unattainable.
