Parade Magazine Interview with Alyssa Rosenheck and Self Care Tips

July 18, 2019 in AR Press Feature, AR Inspo, AR Interviews

If you follow along on Instagram or have even glanced at The New Southern just once, you know how important I believe self-care to be in the pursuit of finding, and living in, your light. They are practically one in the same–making room for the inner voice, exploring the shadows, and asking questions that bring out the light. Stillness, meditative moments, and vulnerability are essential to the process. From baths and long walks to five minutes of quiet to the celebration of small, joyful wins, self-care is individual and essential.

For me, this hit home–hard–after my cancer diagnosis. I swapped corporate ladder climbing, exhaustion and the pursuit of busyness for stillness and listening to my body and heart. It was in that process that I was able to find energy, inspiration, a community, and a way forward–my light. When my intentions and actions aligned, the path was illuminated.

This week, I chatted with Parade Magazine and mapped that path out, in hopes it can be of service to others in their pursuit of light, meaningful connections, and finding one’s authentic self. Head over to their site for the full conversation about what changed after my diagnosis and how I made self-care my new success plan.

5 Tips to Stage Your Home Before Putting It on the Market with Alyssa Rosenheck for Zhush

July 08, 2019 in The New Southern, AR Press Feature, AR Styling

Traveling across the country to shoot and style homes for leading designers, architects, and celebrities pushes me to go deeper than the walls and capture the light and life giving moments each space embodies. In the process, I’ve come to realize that styling and shooting a home for editorial is not so different from prepping a home before it hits the market. With hundreds of miles in experience under my belt, I’ve put together my Top Five Tips for Staging a Home for one of my favorite blogs and Interior’s Enthusiast, Zhush!!

Much like readers, new homebuyers want to be captivated by a space. To do this, I focus on establishing a feeling of stillness and pause so that each viewer is able to slow down and connect. Our homes are where some of our most precious work begins. Within these four walls we build our dreams, harness our passions, hone our creativity, and take the time we need to rest.

My go-to tips make it easy for another family to step in and imagine themselves writing their own, unique story within the space. Selling a home means closing a chapter but for another family, you are helping to lay the foundation for their next. When it comes time for your home to hit the market—let’s make sure it’s a space that redefines traditional methods of staging to feel welcoming, warm, and full of love and gratitude!

WRITING A BOOK | Five ways for more Self-Care

June 06, 2019 in The New Southern, AR Inspo, AR WELLNESS
Alyssa Rosenheck Founder of The New Southern Author Motivation Photographer Nashville Tennessee - A movement of Style and Substance

I feel it. All of it. Complete exhaustion, humility, fullness, joy, gratitude and a deep groundedness all rolled into one. Not because anything has been published yet in hard cover with years of dreaming finely displayed on 300 pages (that will come in Fall 2020); rather, I feel this as a result of a transformative process of writing a book and undergoing new growth. I heard this was often a changing journey for a first time author and I didn’t know what to expect. So I released all expectations and truly poured myself into the process. Where I started and where I am in this present day feel like two different individuals. The former was a little more well rested… HA and now I feel like I am even more sensitive and curious to a world we all are grateful enough to share! Through writing, shooting and producing the book, I have been continually reminded to be gentle with myself. This sounds simple enough, but there is so much pressure in a world that rarely slows down. While there is great power in saying yes, there is a deeper declaration in saying NO. I have been going inward more for stillness, for my own answers and for my own self-love. I have released the feelings of having to produce at a certain rate and I am more focused on creating with quality and great mindfulness. As I allow myself to grow and continue to transform into the creative I know myself to be, I will also allow myself for things to be undone, fail at times, pick myself back up, value kindness over success, and - most importantly - being gentle with myself through all the journeys to come…. especially the journey of finishing up my book. Below, I am sharing quick and easy reminders we all need to create space and be gentle with ourselves. You are all loved and worthy of more self-care in your day - AR

MY 5 S-words FOR BEING GENTLE WITH YOURSELF

one

SAY “NO” TO PEOPLE, THINGS, & EXPERIENCES THAT DO NOT BRING YOU JOY OR ENERGY.

two

STOP + SLOW DOWN. THIS SIMPLIFIES OUR TASKS AND REMINDS US TO BE PRESENT.

three

SCREW PERFECTION! THE EFFORT AND LOVE WE POUR INTO OUR PROJECTS AND RELATIONSHIPS ARE ENOUGH.

four

SELF CARE: MEDITATION, JOURNALING, BATHS, YOGA, WALKS, REST, STILLNESS…TAKE TIME FOR YOU.

five

START CELEBRATING SMALL, DAILY JOYFUL WINS. SMALL FORWARD MOVING STEPS LEAD TO PROFOUND LIFE CHANGING RESULTS.
