If you follow along on Instagram or have even glanced at The New Southern just once, you know how important I believe self-care to be in the pursuit of finding, and living in, your light. They are practically one in the same–making room for the inner voice, exploring the shadows, and asking questions that bring out the light. Stillness, meditative moments, and vulnerability are essential to the process. From baths and long walks to five minutes of quiet to the celebration of small, joyful wins, self-care is individual and essential.
For me, this hit home–hard–after my cancer diagnosis. I swapped corporate ladder climbing, exhaustion and the pursuit of busyness for stillness and listening to my body and heart. It was in that process that I was able to find energy, inspiration, a community, and a way forward–my light. When my intentions and actions aligned, the path was illuminated.
This week, I chatted with Parade Magazine and mapped that path out, in hopes it can be of service to others in their pursuit of light, meaningful connections, and finding one’s authentic self. Head over to their site for the full conversation about what changed after my diagnosis and how I made self-care my new success plan.
